Article Types

Current Events

Current Events are objective pieces talking about recent occurrences in your local area. Current Events can also cover global topics reported in the news from a youth's perspective. It is encouraged that Current Events articles report events that are affecting youth. These articles should be within 1500 words (not including citations) and citations with footnotes are encouraged.

Opinion/Argumentative

Opinion/Argumentative pieces are subjective and based on the author(s)' views about certain events or subjects, usually pertaining to youth. Authors may use citations with footnotes to provide supporting evidence for their argument. Opinion/Argumentative pieces should be within 1000 words (not including citations), but longer articles will be considered.

Letters

Letters are short responses to previously published work. Letters must be respectful and should fall within 250 words. Citations are required, and the first citation should be the published piece that the letter is addressing.

Open

Open articles allow youth to express their creativity through their writing. Authors can write poems, short stories, letters of appreciation, and more. Open articles should fall within 500 words with no citations.
